Isn’t it true you can look bewondered at your little newborn for hours? Your baby is exactly that: a miracle. Starting from only two microscopic cells within 9 months a complete new human is formed. Can you imagine? All this developing, growing and being born is also very exhausting. That is why your newborn will sleep a lot in the first few weeks. And that is the reason this period is the perfect opportunity for making these beautiful, peaceful sleeping photos.
Your baby is called ‘newborn’ from the day of birth up to 4 weeks. With my midwife background and twelve years of being a newborn photographer I am so experienced in photographing young babies that I can do a newborn shoot up to 6 weeks.
After 3 weeks some poses are no longer possible and babies are more awake so maybe they will not sleep through the shoot.
No problem of course, because awake photos are also beautiful. I will take care your baby will feel comfortable and happy.
Another reason for doing a photoshoot in this newborn period is that newborn babies are very agile and flexible. After spending their last months in the womb in the fetal position, being posed in this characteristic position – that looks so great – makes them feel very comfortable. Usually after 4-6 weeks the ‘natural fetal position’ will disappear.
Agile and flexible does not automatically mean you can do anything with a newborn. Actually you have to be very careful. As a former midwife (and baby listener) I am an expert in baby’s comfort and safety and possibilities. These possibilities also differ from baby to baby.
Of course I will explain everything beforehand and parents always have the final say.
And to be clear: some of the photos in my portfolio are digitally manipulated afterward. The head is ALWAYS supported and afterward I will edit this support out.
